PlanCoach is an iOS app that turns “I should do this” into a first step small enough to start right now.
This guide walks through one complete run. Pick something you have been putting off, such as clearing your desk or replying to an email, and follow along.
1. Pick a coach
Each coach has a different style. If you are not sure, start with Coach W, who specializes in getting started and keeps the first step tiny. Miss S is better at chained tasks and longer plans. You can switch coaches at any time. See Coaches for all of them.
2. Describe the task and how you feel
Type or speak the task in your own words. Add where you are right now, both physically and mentally:
Clear my desk. I’m lying in bed scrolling and feel a bit annoyed.
Coaches plan from your current state, so “I’m in bed” gets you a different first step than “I’m already at my desk”.
You can also say how fine-grained you want the steps, for example “split it a bit finer” or “three steps per subject”.
3. Tap Break It Down
The coach replies with a plan: a short list of concrete steps, starting with one that should feel almost too easy.
Read it through. For a fresh plan with a revised request, tap the plan’s title and regenerate. To adjust selected steps or their order while keeping the rest, use the pencil on the Steps page. See the four ways to edit a plan for the exact controls.
4. Break a step down further
If one step still feels too big, long-press it and choose Break Down Further…. The coach splits just that step into smaller ones, keeping the rest of the plan in mind. Repeat until the first step is something you can start in the next minute.
5. Tap Navigate
Navigation Mode shows only the current step in large text, so you do not have to hold the whole plan in your head. Finish the step, move to the next, and skip one if it no longer makes sense.
If you get distracted by a stray thought, shake your iPhone to drop it into Ideas and return to the step.
6. Finish and write a reflection
When you are done, record a short Reflection: what worked, what got in the way. With Memory · Early Access enabled below the task input, the coach can reference recent tasks and reflections in later plans. Remove the Memory capsule before generating if you do not want that context included. See Reflections for both task and step reflections.
